Kimi Antonelli inches closer to F1 title after winning Spanish GP

Kimi Antonelli, the 20-year-old Italian driver, secured his eighth win of the Formula One season by triumphing at the Spanish Grand Prix held at Madrid's new circuit. This victory has pushed Antonelli closer to the championship title, extending his lead to 81 points after 14 rounds. The win came after a well-timed Virtual Safety Car (VSC) and a McLaren pitstop went awry, denying pole-sitter Lando Norris a potential win on a track where overtaking was nearly impossible.

Antonelli expressed satisfaction with his win but acknowledged that Lando Norris had deserved the victory. Red Bull's Max Verstappen finished second, while Norris secured third place. Antonelli currently leads the championship with 292 points, while Norris trails in fifth position with 211 points. McLaren's Lance Stroll triggered the safety car by stopping on track, causing Norris to miss a pitstop under the VSC and return to the track in fifth place.

Antonelli took the lead of the race, finishing 4.3 seconds ahead of Verstappen, with Norris trailing by 0.7 seconds.
