Kaysliky opens up on unpaid gigs, price of fame

Kaysliky, the gospel-juju singer known as Adebisi Solomon, has shared his financial hardships and the price of fame early in his career. The artist recounted the days when he would perform at lounges without receiving payment, relying solely on money thrown by his audience. He recounted, “Starting out was tough. There were times I’d perform at lounges that refused to pay performance fees, telling me to rely solely on money sprayed by the audience.

Often, after playing all night, we wouldn’t even make N50,000.” The payment issues extended to paying his band members and the cost of sound equipment, which Kaysliky found almost impossible to manage during those early stages.

Despite these challenges, Kaysliky also spoke of the support he received from his band and close friends, describing them as the backbone of his success story. He credited them for helping him stay committed to his career through the tough times. Kaysliky also spoke about the effects of fame on his personal life, noting that increased public recognition had diminished his privacy and made it hard for him to carry out everyday activities without attracting crowds.

He described stardom as taking away his privacy, adding that he could no longer perform simple tasks without drawing crowds. Kaysliky is currently preparing for his flagship event, Kaysliky Live in Concert, in response to fans' demand for a major live performance.
