Home minister: New deputy IGP chosen after consultation with King, announcement due soon

KULIM, Sept 13 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that the selection of a new deputy IGP has been finalized and will be disclosed shortly. According to Saifuddin, the appointment process adhered to the procedures outlined in the Federal Constitution and included obtaining the views of the King.

Speaking to reporters after visiting development projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), Saifuddin disclosed that various candidates were evaluated before the final decision was made. He emphasized that all officers holding the rank of police commissioner (CP) are eligible for the deputy IGP position, with PDRM currently having 25 CP-ranked officers.

Following the retirement in July of Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who handed over deputy IGP responsibilities to acting deputy IGP Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus, Saifuddin confirmed that an alternative route would be constructed for motorists traveling between Serdang, Kedah, and Seberang Perai, Penang. The 12-kilometre Kampung Badlishah/Ayer Putih Junjong road project aims to decrease travel time by over 30 minutes, thereby enhancing convenience and benefiting residents.
