‘Family must have helped buy the house’: Anushka Ranjan on money, marriage and classist jibes

They addressed assumptions made by family and friends, such as Ranjan's family helping her purchase their home. The couple emphasized that they did not let these comments affect them, as they knew their own worth.

Dr Pavitra Shankar, a psychiatrist, explained that such remarks often reflect deeper societal assumptions about money, family background, and who is expected to provide in relationships. Dr Shankar noted that these assumptions can influence how people perceive a couple, even if they are unaware of their true dynamics. She emphasized that money should not be the sole measure of a person's worth or their contribution to a relationship, as relationships involve various forms of support and sacrifices.

To deal with intrusive comments, Dr Shankar advised couples to set boundaries with family and friends, communicate their feelings clearly, and support each other privately.
