Dr David Silverstein, Moi’s long-time physician and pioneer cardiologist, dies

David Silverstein, the personal physician to the late Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi, has passed away. The Moi family confirmed his death and paid tribute to him as a compassionate and dedicated doctor. KANU chairman Gideon Moi, Daniel's son, described his father's physician as someone who treated him with meticulous attention, empathy, and dignity.

Gideon emphasized that Silverstein saw Daniel Moi not merely as a patient, but as a human being with a deep concern for his health, dignity, and wellbeing. He praised Silverstein for taking the time to listen, understand, and care for his patients, infusing his medical practice with warmth and humanity. The Moi family extended their condolences to Silverstein's family, led by his wife Channa Commanday, expressing gratitude for allowing Dr Silverstein to care for Moi throughout his health journey.

Beyond his role as Moi's personal physician, Dr Silverstein played a significant role in developing cardiac care in Kenya. He helped establish the first cardiac laboratory at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), a contribution that marked him as a physician remembered not only for his service to one of Kenya's longest-serving presidents, but also for his impact on the field of medicine.
