Anwar seru BRICS bertindak terhadap ketakadilan amalan dagang global

Perdana Menteri Anwar Ibrahim urged the BRICS nations to take concrete action against unfair global trade practices, during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The Malaysian leader emphasized that BRICS should offer significant economic benefits by combining the strength of their combined markets, thus opening up opportunities for diverse trade.

He stressed the importance of opening up space for diverse trade, allowing member economies to reduce dependence on traditional Western markets. Anwar also highlighted the need for BRICS to share ideas and expand technical cooperation, including training in emerging fields such as semiconductors and AI. The Malaysian Prime Minister called for affordable financing for developing countries, which should be proportionate to their goals, while warning that governments should not be forced to choose between debt repayment and meeting the basic needs of their citizens.

He also advocated for commercial capital to play a significant role if used with strong terms, stressing the potential of the New Development Bank, local currency settlement mechanisms, and Islamic finance markets. Anwar urged BRICS to recognize that each nation will take a different approach in the green transition based on their circumstances and development levels.

He connected economic prosperity with geopolitical stability, emphasizing how the current conflict in Western Asia can have cross-border repercussions. He noted that the war has driven up energy prices and threatened sea routes that are vital to the economy, countries not involved in the conflict face higher inflation rates and uncertainty.

Anwar stressed that the largest country capable of influencing the situation bears a special responsibility to avoid conflict from persisting. The Prime Minister was in New Delhi to attend the BRICS Summit, where Malaysia participated as a partner country. Anwar said Malaysia hoped to contribute to BRICS with the spirit of strategic autonomy, which he described as the freedom to determine one's own goals and the bravery to uphold that choice.

BRICS, originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has grown into a large, expanding economic bloc, advocating for deeper economic cooperation among developing nations. The 10-member bloc represents nearly half the world's population and about 40% of global power purchasing power.
