Industry Minister stresses need to build Egyptian furniture identity

Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem emphasized the importance of building a unique Egyptian furniture identity. He highlighted that the furniture industry is a long-standing sector with a rich history and an internationally recognized reputation. However, Hashem noted that the industry has not yet achieved its full potential. He stressed the need to strengthen connections between designers and manufacturers, as design adds significant value to the industry.

Hashem also highlighted the importance of developing skilled artisans to ensure consistent quality and maintain competitiveness in both domestic and international markets. At an expanded meeting attended by various stakeholders, Hashem stressed that the ministry has adopted a partnership-based approach to understand the industry's needs and challenges, with the goal of developing actionable plans to enhance competitiveness.

The meeting addressed key areas for developing the industry, including deepening local manufacturing, replacing imports, and activating digital platforms for marketing. Participants also discussed opening new export markets, particularly in Africa, Libya, and Iraq. Additionally, the meeting reviewed the feasibility of establishing integrated industrial zones dedicated to furniture manufacturing to reduce logistical costs and facilitate operations.

Furniture manufacturers and designers welcomed the government's decision to form a committee for giving preference to local products, affirming its positive impact on the industry's growth and competitiveness.
