Umno tetap harap pengampunan Najib dipertimbangkan, kata Zahid

Umno, the Malaysian ruling party, remains hopeful that former Prime Minister Najib Razak's request for forgiveness will be considered, according to Umno President Zahid Hamidi. Speaking at the Umno General Assembly, Zahid emphasized the party's respect for the Sultan of Malaysia's prerogative and the established process regarding the matter.

He affirmed that Umno fully honours the Sultan's authority and the absolute rights or prerogatives of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in this context. Zahid acknowledged that the situation is not yet resolved and reiterated Umno's continued respect for the established process. However, with deep respect, Umno still hopes that during the upcoming combined session, Najib's forgiveness request will be considered, he said during his address at the Umno Central Council meeting.

Umno has fully submitted to the wisdom and discretion of Tuanku, fully respecting the institution of the monarchy and the constitutional framework. The 63rd session of the Federal Territories, Labuan, and Putrajaya Penal Advisory Committee, held yesterday, decided to postpone Najib's forgiveness request. In the Attorney-General's Chambers statement, it was clarified that Sultan Ibrahim agreed to postpone the request to a future session. During the same session, Sultan Ibrahim also agreed to release 65 detainees.
