Thomasson on target as Renne beat Marseille to go top of Ligue 1

Paris: Adrien Thomasson scored the lone goal in Rennes' 1-0 victory over Olympique de Marseille at their home stadium, propelling the team to the top of Ligue 1 standings. The match saw zero goals in the opening half for both sides. In the 52nd minute, Thomasson steered a header from a Tamari assist past the post, marking his first goal for Rennes since joining from Lens in May.

The 32-year-old midfielder nearly doubled his team's lead shortly after, but his effort struck the crossbar before bouncing away, sparing Marseille's goalkeeping defense. Marseille's performance in the league campaign has been lackluster, following a 4-0 loss to Strasbourg at the start of the season, a 2-0 defeat to Monaco, and a 3-2 loss to Paris FC.

Rennes currently leads the table with 10 points from four games, one ahead of Monaco, who are next set to face Strasbourg. Meanwhile, PSG, the current league champions, are three points behind Marseille, who find themselves 13th with two points from their opening three matches. PSG are scheduled to play against Brest on Sunday, a win that would see them climb ahead of Marseille, who currently sit in 11th place with three points.
