President Donald Trump’s childhood home sells for $2 million

Donald Trump's childhood home, originally located in the affluent Jamaica Estates neighborhood of Queens, New York City, has sold for nearly $2 million following a significant renovation. The president resided in the Tudor-style estate until the age of 4. Built by his father, Fred Trump, a developer, the home was constructed in 1940. The family relinquished ownership of the property years ago.

The listing price of $1.93 million was publicly disclosed on real estate websites after a buyer, identified only as an entity called Trump Birth Home LLC, entered into a contract in July. The property was purchased by Tommy Lin, a developer, for $835,000 in 2020 after it had been vacant and neglected for several years.

Lin invested an additional $500,000 in an eight-month interior renovation, which transformed the home's appearance and functionality. The upgrades included a chef's kitchen, herringbone wood floors, and spa-like bathrooms. The New York Post reported that the home had changed hands multiple times in recent years, with one sale occurring just months after Trump's inauguration in 2017 for $2.14 million.

Following the renovations, the home was briefly listed for rent on Airbnb, adorned with life-sized cardboard cutouts of Trump and copies of his book "The Art of the Deal." However, the property was later relisted for sale in 2019 with an asking price of $2.9 million, but it remained unsold until Tommy Lin's purchase. The renovation efforts were necessary, as the home had fallen into disrepair, suffering from water damage, mold from a burst pipe, and hosting a colony of feral cats during the years of neglect.

As the 80-year-old president, Donald Trump has built his wealth primarily through the real estate industry, constructing the iconic Trump Tower in Manhattan and residing there for many years. He has since leveraged his fame and fortune into a political career. Currently, he is actively involved in the residential overhaul of the White House, adding a grand ballroom and incorporating gold-plated fixtures characteristic of his properties and aesthetic.
