EPL: You can’t win anything with Carrick as manager – Carragher to Man United

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has stated that Manchester United cannot win the Premier League or UEFA Champions League titles under manager Michael Carrick. Carragher dismissed Carrick's ability to lead the Red Devils to success in a recent talkSPORT interview. He argued that Manchester United lacks the necessary managerial leadership to reclaim their former glory, attributing his opinion to last season's disappointing performances.

Carragher expressed openness about his belief that Manchester United will not win a league title or a UCL with Michael Carrick in place. While acknowledging Carrick's impressive results and stabilization efforts, the former Reds defender doubts he can elevate the team to a higher level. He praised Carrick for delivering excellent results and calming the team dynamics after recent chaotic years.

However, Carragher acknowledged that Manchester United's Champions League football return this season would be a significant success. Manchester United appointed Carrick on a two-year contract with an option for a third year following Ruben Amorim's dismissal in January 2026. The Red Devils began the Premier League season with a surprising 2-0 loss to Hull City, rebounded with a 5-2 win against Ipswich Town, but a 2-2 draw against Everton left them in 11th position in the league table.
