Embu Chaos: Police hunt individuals behind UDA meeting disruption

An ongoing police investigation seeks to identify those responsible for disrupting a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ meeting at Nembure Stadium in Embu County. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has formed a special team to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Eastern Regional Police Commander Stephen Chebet confirmed that those found guilty will be held accountable for their actions.

The violence erupted during the meeting, attended by the Deputy President and other UDA officials, when uninvited individuals attempted to enter the stadium. Security forces blocked the group from accessing the venue, leading to the group moving to the Embu-Meru Highway, where they caused disruptions by blocking the road, setting vehicles ablaze, and vandalizing others.

Three vehicles were reportedly set on fire, while three others were damaged during the incident. Three police officers and a civilian were injured in the confrontation. Chebet stated that no one managed to gain access to the venue where the Deputy President was holding the meeting, and the meeting concluded peacefully. He urged the public to present any credible information to the investigation team to assist in identifying the culprits.

Chebet called for restraint among political leaders and the public, emphasizing the need for political actors to conduct their activities without disruption and for Kenyans to engage in respectful discourse. Police officers will continue providing security to political figures who notify authorities of their meetings, irrespective of their affiliations.
