Danny Jordaan reelected head of South African soccer association while facing fraud charges

Danny Jordaan has secured his fourth consecutive term as president of the South African Football Association (Safa) following the recent electoral congress. Jordaan triumphed by garnering 157 votes, compared to Sandile Zungu's 82. Zungu, however, has vowed to challenge the reappointment in court, alleging that some of the 52 Safa regions that opposed Jordaan's re-election were coerced into changing their leadership.

"We are seething with anger at the treatment of these regions," Zungu lamented. Additionally, Zungu accused the Safa leadership of offering financial inducements in exchange for votes, though these claims went unfulfilled. Despite his past controversies, including a rape allegation in 2017 and recent misuse of Safa funds for personal gain, Jordaan will continue in his role as Safa president.
