Upasana Singh Wins Fresh Election Round Amid Super-Ugly CINTAA Spat

CINTAA held fresh elections on September 12, following a prolonged leadership dispute. The elections were called by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) after several resignations from CINTAA’s Executive Committee. A court permitted the elections to proceed, with the result dependent on ongoing legal proceedings.

Actress Upasana Singh and her faction within CINTAA emerged victorious in the fresh election round on Saturday evening. The leadership dispute had been brewing within CINTAA for several months. Almost eight members resigned, claiming that office-bearers Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure were making unilateral decisions and forcing others to step down.

According to a light-eyed actress who is a member of CINTAA, tensions escalated to an ugly level. Upasana Singh and Kunickaa Anand were on one side, while Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure were on the other. They accused each other of displaying 'dictatorship' qualities. Kunickaa and her faction alleged that important paperwork was taken home by Poonam, though these allegations were not proven at the time of going to press.

The Mumbai Police had to intervene, with a female officer urging both sides to calm down, or face potential legal consequences. The incident highlighted the unruly nature of Bollywood, with a prominent actor expressing embarrassment over the behavior of female members.
