China’s Xi urges BRICS to take on peacemaking role in Middle East war

Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed the BRICS summit in New Delhi, urging the bloc to take on a peacemaking role in the Middle East conflict. Speaking to the gathering of member countries, Xi stated that China would collaborate with other BRICS nations in this capacity, asserting that the war does not serve the common interests of the international community. According to state-run CCTV, Xi made these remarks while addressing the summit.

The BRICS group comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. Established in 2009, the organization aimed to challenge the world order dominated by the United States and its Western allies, representing over 40% of the world's population and nearly a quarter of the global economy.

Xi described the BRICS as a "leading group in the Global South and a model of self-reliance among emerging and developing countries," advocating for innovation-driven development.

Xi further announced that China would assume the chairmanship of BRICS the following year and host the 19th BRICS summit, as reported by CCTV.
