China, Russia, India seek greater economic cooperation at Brics

On the final day of their summit in New Delhi, leaders from China, Russia, and India agreed to strengthen economic cooperation within the Brics bloc. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the bloc's role in promoting inclusive global growth, stating that Brics represents 50% of the world's population, 40% of global GDP, and more than 25% of global trade.

Modi highlighted the power of Brics in its diversity and called for cooperation among its members, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Modi and the other leaders discussed the group's efforts to address conflict, trade turbulence, and energy security. They expressed concern over the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and called for maximum restraint. The summit marked the first meeting between Xi and Modi since 2019, as both nations worked to mend their relationship following a military clash along their disputed border six years earlier.

Both India and China agreed on the importance of a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable resolution to the border issue. Despite deep mistrust and a widening trade deficit, the leaders emphasized their commitment to high-quality financial cooperation, an equal and sustainable global order, and an economic globalization that is open and inclusive.
