Benue still bleeding – Peter Obi laments latest attack

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed deep sorrow over the continuous killings in Benue State. In a statement shared on his verified X account, Obi lamented that no words can adequately convey the anguish of losing innocent lives to violence. The most recent attack occurred in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of locals and security personnel.

Obi urged the Federal Government and all security agencies to take immediate action, apprehend the perpetrators, and most crucially, prevent future attacks. He empathized with the families who have once again had to bury their loved ones and the people of Logo, sharing in their sorrow. Despite having recently visited Benue to console families affected by violence in Yelwata, his visit to the current scene was hindered.

Obi emphasized that every Nigerian life, regardless of occupation, religion, or ethnicity, holds equal value. He stressed the need to move past counting the deceased and instead prioritize safeguarding the living. He offered his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, praying for their comfort and the souls of the departed.

He also challenged the nation to confront this evil decisively, questioning why a country cannot protect its citizens. "A nation that cannot protect the lives of its citizens has a duty to ask itself some very difficult questions. We must do better. We must secure Nigeria," Obi concluded.
