True Fitness members caught off-guard by abrupt closure, some seek refunds

True Fitness and True Yoga, two popular fitness and yoga brands in Singapore, are set to close their operations due to provisional liquidation. The news was announced by the businesses on September 10, 2026, with all clubs ceasing operations immediately. The liquidation process was initiated by the businesses' Hong Kong-based parent company, Kontafarma China Holdings, citing difficulties in attracting customers, high operating costs, and stringent cash flow as the primary reasons for their decision.

Members of both True Fitness and True Yoga felt the impact of the closure, with some experiencing financial losses. One dedicated member, who had been a loyal patron for over 20 years, had prepaid more than S$2,000 for a two-year package and had already used half of it. Upon learning about the liquidation on September 10, she received a notification via the gym's app.

The parent company revealed that despite generating significant revenue, True Singapore Group, the umbrella organization for True Fitness and True Yoga, had recorded substantial losses and liabilities exceeding S$64 million. This financial strain was exacerbated by the growth of boutique gyms, condominiums offering gym facilities, and the increasing popularity of digital alternatives, including online training and virtual coaching.

In response to the closure, extraordinary general meetings will be held on October 7 to propose a voluntary winding-up process. Subsequent meetings with creditors will take place to finalize the winding-up process. As of September 11, Google Maps indicates that the Novena branch of True Fitness is temporarily closed.
