Micron's Taiwan workers to get rewards worth up to 68 months of pay

Micron Technology announced on Friday that its direct labor employees in Taiwan will receive bonuses equivalent to 35 to 68 months of pay for fiscal year 2026. The minimum cash compensation for these bonuses is T$1.7 million (US$53,809.39). This marks the largest bonuses in Micron's history, and over 60,000 employees worldwide will receive these rewards. The payouts come after 60,000 employees in Taiwan threatened to strike, although the unions have not commented on the matter.

The bonuses include a T$1 million (US$31,652.58) cash bonus for employees who joined Micron before August 29, 2025. For entry-level engineers, the total rewards average T$3.4 million, with an average T$2.9 million in cash compensation and the rest in equity. Every employee will also receive an annual equity grant.

Micron has invested over T$1.6 trillion in Taiwan, one of its most crucial manufacturing hubs. However, the company's negotiations with the Taoyuan union failed during a mediation meeting last week. A second round of mediation is scheduled. This situation echoes Samsung Electronics' crisis in May, when a planned 18-day strike by up to 48,000 union members was called off after negotiations and a deal creating a special bonus pool worth 10.5% of the chip division's operating profit. Micron is keen to avoid a similar crisis affecting its operations.
