Veteran Umno member Adam Abdul Hamid has urged the party's president, Zahid Hamidi, to push for early general elections, warning that Umno would suffer if they remain in power until the end of their term. Speaking at the party's annual general meeting, Abdul Hamid stated that Umno must pressure the Prime Minister to call elections as soon as possible.

If the party continues in power until the end of the term, it would be disastrous for Umno. Therefore, he called for all possible pressure to ensure there is a voting choice in the near future. The parliamentary term will end in December next year, and the general elections should be held somewhere in mid-February 2028. Abdul Hamid emphasized the need for Umno to lead the resurgence of Malay and Islamic political power, and to approach the relationship with Perikatan Nasional and PAS through dialogue rather than just looking at power issues.

He noted that if they only consider power, they will only end up arguing with each other. After all, whoever wants to be the Prime Minister wants to be the Prime Minister, and those who want to remain in their seats want to remain there, and unity cannot be sustained. Abdul Hamid called on the involved parties to look at the aspects that could enable cooperation, such as the Malay people's economic issues.

In a separate development, a resolution proposed by a veteran Umno member urged the party to lead efforts to reassert Malay and Islamic political power based on the constitution, the people's interests, and national stability. The resolution stated that protracted division would weaken Malay people's bargaining power and open the way for others to determine the nation's political agenda.

This unity is not about hatred towards other groups but a strategy to unite power without compromising justice and the prosperity of the collective society.
