Police arrest man over alleged killing of girlfriend in Kaduna

Kaduna State Police Command announced the arrest of a man in connection with the alleged homicide of his girlfriend. The suspect, Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, is currently under investigation for the death of 35-year-old Rebecca Ojoniko Jeremiah. According to DSP Mansur Hassan, Jeremiah's body was found on September 5 along Mai Angwa Street, Romi, with cotton wool stuffed in her nostrils.

Police detectives from Romi Outstation swiftly transported her to St Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, where she was declared dead by a medical professional. Her remains were subsequently placed at the hospital mortuary for further examination. Preliminary findings suggest that Jatau was the last person to contact the victim and had invited her to meet him at Ebano Joint in Romi.

The suspect was subsequently located and apprehended at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in Maraban Jos area of Kaduna. During questioning, Jatau admitted to a physical altercation with the deceased in his room over a phone conversation from another woman. He claimed that the fight led to her demise and that he subsequently buried her body in an open field near his residence to cover up the incident.

The police maintained that Jatau remains in their custody as the investigation proceeds, and he will be formally charged in court following the completion of the inquiry.
