Punjab Introduces New System for Checking Exam Papers

Punjab's Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has declared plans to abolish manual exam grading in the province next year, replacing it with a new on-screen marking system. Addressing a press conference, Hayat stated that the government would hold schools responsible for subpar academic outcomes, employing measures such as merit, rewards, penalties, and ongoing oversight to enhance the education system.

He emphasized that the government's examination framework ensures a level playing field for all students to showcase their skills. Hayat highlighted the commendable achievements of students from minority communities and the steady rise in girls' performance, attributing these successes to the removal of cheating and interference.

In addition to the new marking system, the government is also rolling out student learning outcome (SLO)-based assessments and is in the process of creating a curriculum tailored to artificial intelligence. These reforms, Hayat asserted, will ensure students receive proper recognition for their efforts and prioritize genuine learning as the primary indicator of educational success.
