Man poses as gold buyer, flees with 70 pieces worth RM150,000

Shah Alam police have arrested a man who posed as a gold buyer and fled with 70 pieces of pure gold, valued at RM150,000. The suspect, a 57-year-old man, was apprehended at a hotel in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, just under 24 hours after the incident took place. The victim, a 28-year-old man, was a gold bar deliveryman who reported the incident to police at around 10 pm on September 8.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had tricked the victim into meeting him at a homestay in Taman Sri Andalas, Klang, under the pretense of conducting a gold sale. Upon the victim handing over the 70 gold pieces for inspection, the suspect entered a room and fled through the rear exit of the house. Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey, the Klang Selatan district police chief, stated that the suspect had seven previous criminal offenses and was remanded for four days until September 13.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which pertains to theft in a building, and carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine upon conviction.
