‘Musa’s Comments on Kaduna Security Not Personal Vendetta’

The Director-General of CG Musa Support Group, Zakariyah Yakub, has defended Defence Minister General Christopher Musa (rtd.) in relation to his recent comments on Kaduna State and national cohesion. The group clarified that Musa's intervention was driven by concerns over national security and unity, rather than a personal vendetta.

The statement was issued following public reactions to Musa's interview on Channels Television, which has sparked debate on various issues including Kaduna State's security situation, national unity, and peaceful coexistence. Musa, who has served in the Nigerian military for decades, was described as speaking from the perspective of a soldier who has witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of insecurity, communal conflicts, and social divisions.

The support group emphasized that the central message of Musa's intervention was the importance of Nigerians placing collective interest above ethnic, religious, regional, and political considerations. They warned that exploiting divisions to undermine peaceful coexistence poses a threat to national development and urged public discourse during heightened political activity to promote healing instead of deepening existing fault lines.

The group acknowledged that individuals aggrieved by the minister's statements have the right to disagree and seek legal redress, but urged all parties involved to allow facts, evidence, and due process to determine any dispute arising from the interview. They emphasized that the controversy should not overshadow more fundamental national issues such as security, justice, accountability, reconciliation, and unity.

The group reaffirmed Musa's commitment to Nigeria and urged political leaders and public commentators to exercise restraint and responsibility in their responses to the controversy, emphasizing that Nigeria must move towards unity, peace, and national interest over political bitterness.
