Micron’s Taiwan workers to get rewards worth up to 68 months of pay

Micron Technology announced on Friday that it will be rewarding its direct labour employees in Taiwan with bonuses equal to 35 to 68 months of pay for fiscal 2026. The US chipmaker described the payouts as its strongest ever, coming after an extraordinary year. The bonus will include a T$1 million (US$31,652.58) cash bonus for employees who joined before August 29, 2025.

For entry-level engineers, the total rewards average T$3.4 million, with T$2.9 million in cash compensation. Every employee will also receive an annual equity grant. The announcement follows union support for a strike, though the unions did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Micron employs about 15,000 people in Taiwan, a key manufacturing hub, and has invested over T$1.6 trillion in the island.

The company and the Taoyuan union failed to reach an agreement during a mediation meeting, with a second round scheduled. This comes as a stark reminder of the risks Micron faces, akin to Samsung Electronics' negotiations in May, where a planned 18-day strike was called off after negotiations.
