NCC India Cadets Explore Singapore’s Culture, Development And Diplomacy During Week-Long Youth Exchange Programme

Singapore: A delegation of cadets from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) of India spent a week in Singapore from August 30 to September 5, taking part in a youth exchange programme called YEP 2026. The programme aimed to promote international understanding, cultural exchange, friendship and leadership among young people. The Indian team, consisting of two officers and 10 cadets, visited Singapore alongside counterparts from Singapore, Brunei and Hong Kong.

Throughout their visit, the cadets immersed themselves in Singapore's multicultural society, national development and diplomatic connections.

The cadets explored the city-state's history and future aspirations at the Singapore Discovery Centre. They also visited key areas, such as Raffles Place and Marina Bay, to witness Singapore's transformation into a modern city-state. Additionally, the cadets discovered the multicultural character of Singapore by touring heritage sites like Malay-origin Kampong Glam, Bugis Street, Chinatown, Little India and the bustling Orchard Road shopping district.

During their visit, the cadets learned about the role of diplomatic missions by touring the Indian High Commission in Singapore. They gained insights into the mission's responsibilities towards Indians overseas and the strong, multifaceted relationship between India and Singapore. This firsthand experience allowed the young cadets to understand how India is represented abroad.

Beyond sightseeing and cultural exposure, the programme offered valuable lessons for the young cadets. The exchange enabled friendships to form among participants from India, Singapore, Brunei and Hong Kong, highlighting the role young people can play in strengthening understanding across borders. On September 5, the NCC delegation returned to India.
