Korea, US hold public diplomacy forum on Global South cooperation

Korea and the United States convened a joint forum this week to explore avenues for bolstering strategic cooperation with nations in the Global South, according to Seoul's foreign ministry. The 2026 Korea-U.S. Public Diplomacy Forum was held at Georgetown University in Washington on Thursday (U.S. time) under the theme "The New International Order and the Global South: Expanding Horizons for Korea-U.S.

Strategic Cooperation," as reported by the ministry. The Global South encompasses developing and emerging economies spanning Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. Representatives from both countries engaged in discussions about evolving geopolitical and economic security landscapes across the Global South, as well as strategies to enhance joint public diplomacy initiatives, based on the ministry's statement.

Yoon Chu-sok, deputy chief of mission at the Korean Embassy in Washington, remarked in his congratulatory remarks that the Global South's significance is on the rise due to its vast population, substantial economic scale, and rich reserves of critical minerals and resources. He emphasized that efforts will continue to identify programs and events across various domains to strengthen cooperation.
