How to buy fuel via app, serve yourself at NNPC stations

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has started deploying self-service fuel pumps at select NNPC Retail stations across the country. Motorists can now dispense petrol using a mobile application, marking a shift from the traditional model where attendants dispense fuel. NNPC plans to install between 50 and 70 smart, self-service stations nationwide within the next six months.

To use these self-service stations, motorists must first download the NRL Fuel App from the NNPC's X handle. After opening the app and selecting their fuel type, they can browse the station list and choose an NNPC Retail station offering the self-service option. These stations are identifiable by a green Self-Serve badge beside the station name.

Once at the station, customers enter the amount they wish to spend on fuel and review the quantity and price before tapping "Pay from Wallet" to process the transaction. Upon successful payment, the app generates a digital receipt containing an Order ID, a self-service code, and a QR Code.

At the pump, customers enter their 8-digit self-service code on the terminal and press the hash key. Upon validation, they can pick up the nozzle and dispense the exact amount of fuel they paid for. The new self-service stations at NNPC Retail will offer conventional petrol sales alongside expanded services like electric vehicle charging, liquefied petroleum gas, compressed natural gas, and other mobility services.
