Grand Collaboration proposed as Zahid says unity pact can cool Malaysia’s messy political quarrels

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has proposed a "Grand Collaboration" among political party coalitions in Malaysia to avert clashes detrimental to the ummah and the nation. This proposal, not a merger of parties, aims to foster mutual understanding and political stability, drawing inspiration from the Treaty of Hudaibiyah and the opening of Makkah.

Zahid emphasized that this collaboration would not dilute the unique identity of any party, as each party would remain distinct. He outlined three guiding principles: prioritizing common ground for the ummah's benefit, respecting ideological differences and party guidelines, and fostering tolerance through flexibility. Honesty and sincerity are essential for the success of this political understanding, preventing betrayal and broken agreements.

Zahid stressed the importance of Umno's long-term vision for national development, citing the NEP and TN50 as examples of inclusive socioeconomic planning for future generations. He reiterated that Umno's true character lies in its ability to plan for the nation's future across generations, not just for one election cycle. The party's priority is not merely to win elections but to ensure a strong national framework and direction for future leaders.
