Techiman MCE residence abandoned since 2017; Regional Minister sets December deadline

The residence of the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has been vacant since 2017, despite significant public funds being spent on its renovation. This issue came to light when the Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, visited the facility during a tour of government projects in the Techiman Municipality. The Minister expressed dismay at the residence's unused status for nearly a decade, questioning why successive MCEs had opted to live elsewhere since 2017, with renovation costs cited as the reason for its inactivity.

Owusu Antwi emphasized that this situation not only put MCEs at risk but also resulted in wasteful spending by the Municipal Assembly and the state, urging the current MCE to move into the residence by the end of December. The Minister also pointed out the deteriorating condition of the building, which he believes could worsen if left unoccupied, leading to increased repair costs in the future.

Concerns have been raised about the oversight and management of public projects, particularly the neglect of a publicly funded facility intended for official use. Therefore, Owusu Antwi has set December as the deadline for the current MCE to relocate to the official residence and assured that he will return in December to confirm compliance.
