Eni, Vitol sign MoUs with Ghana for two offshore blocks in Tano Basin

Eni Ghana and Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd have signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Ghanaian government, covering two offshore blocks in the Tano Basin. The agreements, for the GH WB 3 and GH WB 8 blocks, aim to facilitate the finalization of Petroleum Agreements in these regions. The signing took place on Thursday, September 10, 2026, with the presence of the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, and officials from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

The offshore blocks span around 2,100 square kilometers, with water depths between 750 and 2,800 meters. Eni describes the opportunities as aligning with its nearfield and Infrastructure-Led Exploration (ILX) strategy, which aims to utilize existing infrastructure and proximity to established producing areas to maximize the potential of these areas.

This latest development follows a Memorandum of Intent signed last year, signifying another step towards concluding the Petroleum Agreements. Eni's involvement in Ghana's upstream petroleum sector dates back to 2009, with the company currently producing approximately 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the country. Eni operates the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project, held jointly with Vitol and the GNPC.

The MoUs represent Eni's ongoing commitment to investment and exploration in Ghana's petroleum sector, while adhering to the country's legal and regulatory framework.
