Mahama government pledges delivery beyond project sod-cuttings

Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Deputy Minister of Finance, highlighted the Mahama government's commitment to completing infrastructure projects after cutting sod, emphasizing delivery over promises. This commitment was evident at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Somanya Roundabout-Dodowa Highway and selected inner roads in Somanya, which will enhance transportation and stimulate economic growth in the Eastern Region.

Addressing traditional leaders, government officials, and residents, Nyarko acknowledged the government's increased financial transfers to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies. He expressed confidence that the development taking place was far better than what was witnessed during the previous eight years. The government's fiscal decentralisation policy, which allocated more funds to Assemblies in one and a half years compared to the previous government's six-year period, was crucial for effective local governance.

Nyarko stressed that funds needed to follow functions, meaning Assemblies must receive adequate resources to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.

The Somanya-Dodowa Highway project is part of the Mahama government's Big Push agenda, aimed at improving road infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and facilitating movement of people, goods, and services between the Eastern Region and Accra.
