A senior DAP Kuala Lumpur leader has urged party members to resign from their ministerial positions if former PM Najib Razak is granted a pardon for his corruption convictions. Ben Fong, the treasurer for DAP Kuala Lumpur, emphasized that there is "no red line" that the party can cross in this matter. The country's regional tribunal is expected to consider Najib's pardon request, which involves several corruption cases linked to the 1MDB scandal.

Najib, 72, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for misusing RM42 million from SRC International, and his sentence has been reduced to 6 years with a fine of RM50 million. He is currently serving his sentence in Kajang Prison since August 2022. In December 2025, Najib will face charges of abuse of power and conversion of illegal funds involving over RM2 billion in relation to 1MDB, for which he could face a 15-year prison sentence and a fine of RM11.38 billion.

Fong stated that leaving the Cabinet is not necessarily a sign of weakening the government. He believes DAP can continue to support the government from outside the Cabinet to maintain political stability and advocate for institutional reform. "But stability cannot be an excuse to accept everything. Political leaders must acknowledge that there are certain boundaries that cannot be crossed," he added. Currently, DAP has five ministers and seven deputy ministers in Anwar Ibrahim's administration.
