Kwankwaso asks Atiku to quit 2027 race

Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has urged his presidential rival, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race. While meeting with members of the Fulani Farmers Association in Abuja, Kwankwaso suggested that Atiku should concentrate on his duties as a traditional leader instead, pointing to the candidate's age and health as reasons for his request.

Kwankwaso appealed to ADC supporters to encourage Atiku to step aside from the race. The Kano State governor stated, "Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa's house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health." This appeal followed efforts to unite opposition candidates against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

In April, Atiku had indicated that he might run for his final presidential term, citing his age and the significance of the election. Atiku has run for presidency multiple times, losing each time, and is known for advocating restructuring, economic liberalization, and private sector-led growth.
