Tuntutan difail di Singapura berkait Eric Tan, sekutu Jho Low

The 1MDB Asset Recovery Unit has announced that four companies have filed lawsuits against DBS Bank, linking them to accounts opened by the associate of Jho Low, Eric Tan. According to Reuters, the Asset Recovery Unit of 1MDB informed that the lawsuit against the four companies, namely BlackRock Commodities (Global) Ltd, Platinum Global Luxury Services Ltd, Affinity Equity International Partners, and TKIL Global Investments Ltd, was filed before the High Court in Singapore for damages exceeding $1.5 billion.

In a statement, the asset recovery team explained that as per the lawsuit claims, five relevant accounts had been opened by DBS in 2013. According to them, the account opening documents listed Tan Kim Loong, commonly known as Eric Tan, as the beneficial owner of the five relevant accounts. The asset recovery team also clarified that Tan, being a signatory for each of the five relevant accounts, is a Malaysian citizen and close associate of Jho Low.

The money, after being inserted into the five relevant accounts, was not merely kept there. It was transferred between the four companies without any valid reason, and paid to third parties, including a jewelry store, a private jet rental service, and a night club. The money was also paid for the purchase of a luxury yacht. Between 2013 and 2014, over $1 billion stolen from 1MDB and SRC International was funneled through these four companies.

The asset recovery team emphasized that the lawsuit and the subsequent asset recovery proceedings are being pursued in the best interest of the victims of the fraud, including 1MDB. They also noted that the bank, as the gatekeeper of the financial system, should have raised questions when a dormant company was repeatedly used to transfer large sums of money and then used to pay for luxury goods.

However, no questions were asked. The team concluded that this is the rightful lawsuit by the asset recovery court and any recovered money will be returned to the people of Malaysia.
