Court rejects police bid to extend Abdul Azeez’s remand, former TH chairman set for release

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — Former Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim is set for release this evening after his remand was not extended, according to his lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad. Police had applied to extend Abdul Azeez's remand for an additional three days to aid the investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code, but their request was denied.

The former Baling Member of Parliament is expected to be released before 5pm once his current remand period ends. Abdul Azeez's lawyer emphasized that their client was fully cooperative with the police and ready to assist in the investigation, stating that the investigation can proceed without the need for further remand. If additional evidence is required, Abdul Azeez is prepared to appear at Bukit Aman at any time.

Abdul Azeez, along with two other former TH officers, were initially remanded for two days to aid the investigation into a fraud case related to TH hibah. When arraigned on MACC charges earlier, Abdul Azeez was under police custody for the remand proceedings and followed the instructions and SOPs set by the police. Amer Hamzah stated that there was no issue regarding clothing choices during that time.

Abdul Azeez has appeared for statements more than ten times and is committed to fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation.
