Atiku, Keyamo, Dickson, APC, Others, Decry Blockade of Obi’s Convoy in Makurdi

Prominent Nigerians, including presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, have condemned the disruption of Peter Obi's convoy during a visit to Makurdi, Benue State. The All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement, and several other groups denounced the incident, requesting an apology from the state and a probe into the matter.

Atiku described the event as "unacceptable, anti-democratic, and deeply shameful," while Keyamo challenged the partisan coverage of political confrontations. Obi's convoy was reportedly stopped by suspected thugs en route to Yelwata, where he planned to offer condolences to families affected by violent attacks. Atiku called for an urgent investigation into the incident and accountability for those responsible, emphasizing the importance of political leaders moving freely without intimidation.

Keyamo stressed the need for consistency in media reporting of confrontations involving political candidates and rejected the notion that Obi's visit could justify interference with his movement. The NDC's National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, faulted the Benue State Police Command's explanation, calling for preventive measures to avoid similar incidents and questioning the adequacy of security arrangements for a presidential candidate's visit.
