Akpabio Petitions DSS, Demands Probe of Alleged Anti-North Statement, Seeks Proof

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate a statement purportedly attributed to him, claiming it could foment regional tensions ahead of the 2027 general election. The statement, which featured Akpabio's photograph and a quoted remark, alleged that he said "Northerners, you will be the ones to suffer the most, if you allow Tinubu to lose the election."

However, Akpabio's office vehemently denied the claim, stating that no evidence existed to authenticate the quotation. The petition, signed by Chief of Staff Chinedu Akubueze, called for DSS to identify the origin of the graphic, those responsible for its production and dissemination, and the network involved in its circulation.

The alleged promoters of the statement included Abdullai Musa, Uzoma Chilaka, and Ibrahim Umar Ammar, but the Senate President urged against presuming guilt until investigation. The opposition party's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon Eseme Eyiboh, challenged those spreading the statement to provide evidence or retract the claim publicly, dismissing the allegation by pointing out Akpabio's inclusive political relationships and official appointments.
