State closes case against Kwabena Adu-Boahene, two others

The State has closed its case against Kwabena Adu-Boahene and two others in connection with an alleged GH¢49.1 million loss to the state. Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai announced this on Facebook on September 8, 2026, detailing the prosecution's evidence. The trio are accused of using "clever means" to divert funds from a state agency and spending them.

The principal defense of Adu-Boahene was that the money was intended to acquire a cyber defense system for the agency. The prosecution called four witnesses to support their case. The family driver of Adu-Boahene and his wife testified about taking money-related errands for the couple, including transporting large sums of cash. The Head of Finance of the affected state agency revealed that the names on the cheques did not match the bank account where the funds were deposited, and the agency didn't order the cyber defense system.

An employee of Adu-Boahene and his wife testified about the movement and expenditure of the funds through their company and others. A third witness, from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), presented evidence including cheques and documents related to the accused's financial dealings and real estate investments. The court has allowed the accused until September 25 to file their submissions of no case to answer, with the Republic having 14 days to respond. The case was adjourned to November 5, 2026.
