Peter Obi in Benue: Nobody has right to stop anyone from campaigning – Aisha Yesufu

Human rights advocate Aisha Yesufu has harshly criticized the blockade preventing Peter Obi from entering the Yelwata Internally Displaced Persons, or IDPs, camp in Benue. According to Yesufu, no individual or group in Nigeria should dictate where political candidates are allowed to campaign. Days prior, tensions arose in Benue State following reports that armed individuals allegedly obstructed a major road as Obi arrived in the region.

Obi himself stressed that his visit was focused on humanitarian efforts rather than electoral campaigning. In response to the situation, Yesufu declared, "How dare anyone prevent someone from moving to any part of the country to campaign?" She further questioned, "The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that campaigning has commenced. How can someone stop another from fulfilling their obligations?"
