Aayalolo adds 48 buses to fleet as GAPTE moves to ease Accra traffic

The Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE) has added 48 buses to its fleet, as measures to alleviate traffic congestion in Accra. The buses, which had been previously grounded, have been repaired and deployed on major routes across the Greater Accra Region. This development has increased the total number of operational Aayalolo buses to 128.

GAPTE Managing Director, Awudu Dawuda, revealed this information during a visit by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, to the Madina Aayalolo terminal. The visit aimed to assess the bus service's operations and explore ways to improve public transportation efficiency for commuters.

Dawuda emphasized that increasing the number of operational buses has been a top priority for GAPTE, especially as Accra continues to grapple with persistent traffic congestion. The organization had inherited 80 operational buses, and subsequently repaired an additional 48 buses for deployment across its routes. These 80 buses were the foundation upon which GAPTE worked to enhance mobility and ease congestion in the Greater Accra region.

The 48 newly added buses have now been integrated into the existing fleet, bringing the total to 128 buses serving various corridors in the region.
