New men's nat'l football coach Moreno due in S. Korea on Sunday

SEOUL, Sept. 9 (Yonhap) -- Robert Moreno, the interim head coach of the men's national football team, is set to arrive in South Korea on Sunday. The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced Wednesday that Moreno will hold a media availability upon landing at Incheon International Airport, located just west of Seoul, late Sunday morning.

The 48-year-old Moreno, along with his five-man backroom staff, was recently hired by the KFA on September 1 to oversee South Korea's next six international friendlies. The Taegeuk Warriors will face Ecuador on September 24, Uruguay on September 28, Venezuela on October 2, and Uzbekistan on October 6. The KFA is also working to schedule two additional matches during the FIFA tournament window from November 9 to 17.

Moreno will hold a press conference on Monday at Korea Football Park in Cheonan, located about 80 kilometers south of Seoul, to announce his first squad of South Korean players for the four matches scheduled for September and October. The KFA opted to appoint Moreno as a temporary coach for the fall, after Hong Myung-bo resigned at the end of June to assume the position of head coach following South Korea's elimination from the FIFA World Cup group stage.

The KFA plans to have a full-time coach in place for the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup in January. Moreno, who previously coached the Spain men's national team and served as an assistant for Luis Enrique at Spain and FC Barcelona, is signed through November 27 but the KFA said he may stay on for the Asian Cup, depending on the team's performance in the upcoming matches.
