Man granted protection order against wife who sent AI-generated obscene images of him and his sister

A family court in Singapore has granted a man a personal protection order (PPO) against his wife, who had been emotionally and psychologically abusing him through text messages alleging he had sex with his sister. The court found that the fake images and videos of the husband and sister engaging in sexual acts, created by artificial intelligence, constituted family violence.

The husband sought the PPO, alleging his wife's accusations were causing him emotional distress. The wife had a strained relationship with her husband's sister. The man's troubles began when he agreed to contribute S$100,000 towards his father's medical bills and informed his wife that he had transferred around S$65,000 to his sister.

Magistrate Soh Kian Peng found the wife's response to be "hideously offensive and vile," with the man reportedly tormented and distressed during the trial. The court reviewed 90 pages of screenshots showing the wife's messages and the explicit fake images and videos she created using a free application. The magistrate stated it was clear that the messages and images inflicted emotional and psychological abuse on the man.

The husband had lost significant weight during the dispute. The court found a high risk of the wife continuing family violence by sending such messages, particularly noting her cessation of the behavior when the husband filed for the protection order. The conflict between the couple concerning the sister-in-law remains unresolved, and the magistrate emphasized that it is unlikely the husband would cut off all contact with his sister to avoid further conflict with his wife.

The magistrate granted the PPO and ordered the couple to attend counseling, citing the wife's admission to the Institute of Mental Health twice and recommending a preliminary assessment report to potentially order psychiatric treatment for the woman.
