iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone Duo: Here’s every key difference

Apple unveiled three new flagship iPhone models: the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the foldable iPhone Duo. The most noticeable difference between the foldable Duo and the traditional Pro models is their form factor. While the iPhone 18 Pro offers a traditional iPhone experience, the Duo is a foldable device that essentially combines the functionality of an iPhone and an iPad.

The foldable Duo has a unique set of displays: a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch folding display, which may require some adjustment for users transitioning from a traditional iPhone. Although the Duo may appear sleeker than the Pro Max, it is slightly heavier. The Duo is equipped with a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch folding display, offering a smaller "iPhone" experience alongside a larger inner screen compared to the Pro Max.

Camera capabilities are a crucial factor when comparing iPhone models, and the iPhone 18 Pro outshines the Duo in this area. The Pro model boasts a new 48MP Main camera with variable aperture, while the Duo lacks the variable aperture feature, resulting in a less powerful Main camera. Notably, the iPhone 18 Pro also includes the Telephoto camera, which is absent in the Duo.

In terms of software, each model has its own distinctive features. The Pro model supports ProRes video recording up to 4K at 60 fps with external recording, along with features like a "studio-quality four-mic array," Spatial video recording at 1080p at 30 fps, Spatial photos, ProRes RAW, Genlock, and more. The Duo, taking advantage of its dual displays, offers variable battery life depending on the display in use.

However, Apple is promising strong battery life on both devices. On average, the Duo's battery life is estimated to last around 38 hours of video playback.

Authentication methods differ between the Duo and the Pro models. While the Duo relies on Touch ID, the Pro model utilizes Face ID. The Duo does not feature an Action button, but it does include Camera Control. Additionally, iPhone Duo brings several multitasking advantages in iOS 27, such as the ability to use apps in Split View and have unique landscape views. It also introduces a partially-folded StandBy mode and supports the USB-C version of Apple Pencil, an advantage over the iPhone 18 Pro.

In terms of aesthetics, iPhone 18 Pro comes in four colors: Burgundy, Glacier, Black, and Silver, while the Duo offers only two options: Star White and Night Sky. The Duo is also constructed from different materials; it utilizes titanium compared to the aluminum unibody design of the Pro models. Pricing-wise, the Pro models will be available for pre-order this Saturday and ship on September 18, whereas the Duo will not be available for pre-order until October 16, with shipping set for October 23.
