iPhone 18 Pro battery life compared to iPhone Duo and iPhone 17 Pro

Apple has unveiled its latest flagship iPhone lineup, which includes the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo. Among the major upgrades is a significant improvement in battery life, according to Apple, marking the largest increase in battery life history for the iPhone. The enhancements are attributed to new internal battery designs, improved efficiency from the A20 Pro chip, and system software optimizations.

Apple's spec sheets reveal the relative increases in battery life. The iPhone 17 Pro is capable of streaming video playback for up to 30 hours, while the 17 Pro Max offers up to 35 hours. Comparatively, the iPhone 18 Pro claims a battery life of 33 hours, a 10% improvement over the 17 Pro. The iPhone 18 Pro Max extends this to 40 hours, representing a 14% increase.

To more accurately reflect real-world usage, Apple has introduced a new battery life metric for the 18 series, which assesses activities like messaging, photography, gaming, web browsing, and more. Under this benchmark, the iPhone 18 Pro Max boasts 30 hours of battery life, while the iPhone 18 Pro manages 24 hours. These figures apply to eSIM versions, sold in the United States; non-eSIM models, sold in many international markets, experience a 2-hour reduction in video playback due to the physical SIM tray.

Despite its foldable design, the iPhone Duo maintains a respectable battery life, with Apple expecting 26 hours of streaming video playback when using the larger inner display and up to 37 hours when using the outer display. Based on these published numbers, the Duo's battery life is roughly on par with the iPhone 17 Pro during heavy inner display usage.

However, the Duo will not hit the market until October 23, so hands-on reviews are still pending. The iPhone 18 Pro goes on preorder this weekend, offering a glimpse into Apple's newest offerings.
