Apple's surprise unveiling of the $1,999 iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, showed off an impressively thin device with a subtle center crease. Early hands-on experiences, reported by Mashable's Stan Schroeder, revealed the phone's responsiveness as it changes shape and the nearly invisible crease, though it is still detectable at certain angles.

Max Weinbach called the iPhone Duo the "bar none best foldable," praising its under-display camera as "wild." iJustine Ezarik described the fully opened device as "amazingggg" and demonstrated how the vertical video feed and outer display can be used while framing a shot. YouTube streamer IShowSpeed was captivated by the phone's folding and unfolding capabilities, highlighting the sleek animation when transitioning between displays.

However, some responses were mixed, with comparisons to Microsoft's Surface Duo or a Nintendo DS, and concerns about potential stuttering in games as the display moves between positions. Gizmodo's Ray Wong noted that a subtle crease becomes visible when viewed at an overhead light from certain angles, but many agreed that it is largely unnoticeable. The iPhone Duo will be available to customers on October 23.
