Cop martyred, another injured in attack on police team in KP's Karak

LAKKI MARWAT: On Tuesday night, a tragic incident unfolded in the Shatakai dam area of Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. A group of unknown armed men ambushed a police patrol, resulting in the loss of one life and severe injury to another officer. According to the district police officer's spokesperson, Shaukat Khan, Constable Zafran lost his life during the attack, while Constable Muhammad Imtiaz was gravely wounded.

The bodies of the officers were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. In response to the incident, a large force of police, led by the DPO Imran Khan, swiftly arrived at the scene. They cordoned off the entire area and initiated a comprehensive search for the perpetrators. Additional security personnel were also deployed around the periphery to monitor the movements of suspicious individuals and prevent any potential escape attempts by the attackers.

Khan emphasized the force's unwavering resolve to apprehend the assailants and bring them to justice.

According to recent data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), Karak district witnessed a rise in terrorist activities in August compared to July. There were 54 terrorist attacks in August, up from 36 in July, marking a 50% increase. However, the number of deaths due to these attacks decreased from 69 in July to 44 in August, while injuries decreased from 96 to 70, representing a 27% reduction.

Despite the decline in casualties, security forces in the province successfully neutralized 56 terrorists during this period, a figure that also decreased compared to July. In a separate incident earlier in August, a police constable was martyred and six officials were injured when their patrol van was targeted by an improvised explosive device in the same Karak district.
