Cop martyred, another injured in attack on police team in KP's Karak

LAKKI MARWAT – In a tragic incident on Tuesday night, a policeman was killed and another sustained gunshot injuries when unknown assailants fired upon a police patrol in the Shatakai dam area of Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). District Police Officer (DPO) spokesperson Shaukat Khan reported that the police team was conducting routine patrol in the vicinity of Sabirabad Police Station when the attack occurred.

Constable Zafran succumbed to his wounds, while Constable Muhammad Imtiaz required serious medical attention. The victims were transported to a hospital for treatment. In response to the attack, a large force of police, headed by DPO Imran Khan, swiftly arrived at the scene, securing the entire area and launching an extensive search operation for the perpetrators.

Additional security personnel were also deployed to monitor the movements of suspicious individuals and prevent any attempts by the attackers to escape. Khan emphasized the district police's resolve to apprehend the assailants swiftly. PICSS data revealed that KP witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks in August compared to July, with 54 incidents recorded in August, up from 36 in July, marking a 50% increase.

However, the number of deaths from terrorist attacks fell from 69 in July to 44 in August, and injuries dropped from 96 to 70, representing a 27% decrease. Security forces eliminated 56 terrorists in August, a decline from the 69 recorded in July. In another related incident, a police constable was killed and six officials were injured in Karak district when an improvised explosive device was detonated against a police patrol van.
