Apple announces two new AirPods 5 models at iPhone launch event

Apple unveiled two new AirPods 5 models during its "Surprise and Shine" keynote event on Wednesday. The previous AirPods 4 were introduced two years ago, and the new models boast several enhancements. The AirPods 5 come in two versions: one with and one without active noise cancellation (ANC), priced at $129 and $149 respectively.

Unlike the previous generation, the ANC feature is now standard on both models, without causing a price increase. The lower-priced model with ANC is priced the same as the non-ANC AirPods 4. The higher-tier model, priced at $149, is $30 less than the $179 AirPods 4 with ANC.

Additionally, the $149 AirPods 5 model features updated adaptive EQ, offering improved spatial audio, and 50% more active noise cancellation compared to the AirPods 4. An improved transparency mode delivers a more natural sound experience. The higher-priced model includes a wireless charging case, and a force sensor is present on the stem to adjust volume.

The charging case supports various wireless chargers, including Apple Watch, Qi-compatible, and USB-C chargers. The AirPods 5, along with the AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case, are now available for preorder and will be released on September 18.
