2027: NDC denies diverting aspirants’ donations

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected claims that funds raised from aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections were misappropriated. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, addressed these allegations in a statement on Tuesday, describing the rumors as a concerted misinformation campaign likely orchestrated by disgruntled individuals.

The NDC, which is positioning itself as an opposition party ahead of the polls, clarified that all donations and levies were deposited directly into the party's official account and managed by the proper party authorities. They emphasized that this practice is common in political parties worldwide. The statement further defended the party's candidate selection and financing processes, stating that the NDC's leader, Seriake Dickson, neither sought nor received personal funds from aspirants.

The party insisted that they would provide full financial transparency in accordance with Electoral Act and INEC guidelines. The NDC argued that raising funds through voluntary contributions and levies is essential for building a nationwide structure and fielding candidates without the resources typically available to incumbent administrations.

They challenged any individual who allegedly made payments directly to individuals instead of the party's designated account to present evidence, warning that they would not protect anyone found guilty. The party also clarified that their candidate selection was not based on the sale of party tickets, and the presidential and vice-presidential nominations were offered free of charge.
